I am not able to log in

Here is an overview of possible solutions to log in or access problems. If these solutions do not work, please contact local IT.

You have not changed your password in over a year

Everybody at UiO has to change their password once a year. All users receive an e-mail about this to your UiO e-mail address.

If you do not change your password in time, your account will be suspended and you lose access to our IT services. Order a single-use code from our password services to make a new password. Once you have changed your password you will regain access to our IT services within the hour.

You have recently changed your password

It can take up to an hour before your new password has reached all our services.

Wrong password and/or user name

Try logging in to our password services and click "Show password" to make sure that you are writing your password correctly.   

If you are still experiencing issues with logging in, use the password services to make a new password.

If you do not remember your username, use the password services.

I am getting an error message that says I do not have access

You do not have the rights to use this service or program.

  • Contact the owner of the service or local IT to find out why you do not have access or to gain access.
  • Contact the web editor who is responsible for the site if the problem is in Vortex.

Some services are only available from the UiO networks

If you want to use these services from a computer that is not on the UiO network (Eduroam or wired network), use Programkiosk or Remote Desktop.

Examples of services only available if connected to the UiO network:

  • print.uio.no
  • Dictionaries at Ordnett and Atekst (Retriever)
  • Your home disk (M:)
  • Basware, CurrentTime (CT) and some other management systems.

You have not paid the semester fee and/or registered in Studentweb

All students receive a user name by SMS before they start studying at UiO. The password is up to you and can be set using the password services.

Please be aware that your IT access will be withdrawn if you do not register in Studentweb or pay the semester fee before the deadline, which is september 1st for the fall semester and february 1st for the spring semester.
