Two-Factor Authentication for Guests

The guide shows how guests accessing UiO's Microsoft 365 instance set up two-factor authentication.

On Monday 23 October, two-factor authentication will be set up for guests in Microsoft 365 at UiO.

The guide is written for new guests. If you are already a guest in Microsoft Teams at UiO, please go to point 4 in the guide.

Two-factor authentication for guests

  1. You have received an email with an invitation to a team in Microsoft Teams at UiO.

  2. Go to the received email and click on Open Microsoft Teams.

  3. You will now get a window telling that UiO is collecting some information about you and your user account. Click Accept.

  4. You are now asked to create two-factor authentication for your guest account for Microsoft Teams at UiO. Click Next.

  5. To secure your guest account, please install Microsoft Authenticator or another authentication application (e.g. Google Authenticator and SMS). After the application is installed on your phone, click Next.

  6. The next steps happen on both your computer and phone. Open Microsoft Authenticator on your phone. If prompted, you allow notifications.

    Add Account:

    Select Work or school and Scan QR code:

    Click Next on your computer.

  7. A QR code will now appear on your computer, which you must scan with Microsoft Authenticator on your phone.

  8. When the QR code has been scanned, you will be asked to test your two-factor setup and you will see a numerical code entered on your computer that you must enter in Microsoft Authenticator on your phone.

    Enter the code on the phone and then press Yes.

  9. On your computer, you will now see that the two-factor notification has been approved. Click Next.

  10. In the last window, you will receive a confirmation that you have completed the setup of two-factor authentication as a guest at UiO. Click Done, and you will be logged into Microsoft Teams.
