Set up two-factor authentication (2FA) with Google Authenticator for Guests

The guide shows you how to set up two-factor authentication on UiO, with Google Authenticator.

On Monday 23 October, two-factor authentication will be set up for guests in Microsoft 365 at UiO.

The guide is designed for new guests. If you are already a guest in Microsoft Teams at UiO, please go to point 4 in the guide.

Two-factor authentication for guests

  1. You have received an email with an invitation to a team in Microsoft Teams at UiO.

  2. Go to the received email and click on Open Microsoft Teams.

  3. You will now get a window telling that UiO is collecting some information about you and your user account. Click Accept.

  4. You are now asked to create two-factor authentication for your guest account for Microsoft Teams at UiO. Click Next.

  5. To secure your guest account with Google Authenticator or another two-factor authentication application, you must click I want to use a different authenticator app.

  6. Download Google Authenticator for your phone.
  7. Open Google Authenticator, click Scan a QR code.

    Accept with OK that Authenticator is allowed to access the camera to scan the QR code.
  8. Click Next in the browser on your computer.

  9. The setup guide now shows you the QR code that you are to scan with your phone.

  10. Point the camera on your phone, while in Google Authenticator, to scan the QR code. The Authenticator app will now automatically configure two-factor authentication for you.

    When completed, you will have a code generator for UiO in Google Authenticator on your phone.

  11. Click Next in the browser on your computer.
     
  12. Enter the code shown the Google Authenticator in the browser window.
