FARM5180 – Drugs against cancer and autoimmune diseases
Course content
The course is about tumor biology and immunology that gives the students a background for competence in drugs against cancer and autoimmune diseases, including classical cytotoxic drugs, signaling inhibitors, and peptide- and protein-based drugs ("biologics"). The course also includes development of peptide- and protein-based drugs and principles for detection of peptide- and protein-based biomarkers and drugs in blood.
Learning outcome
After completing the course:
- you have in-dept knowledge and understanding of tumor biology, immunology and principles of drug treatment for cancer and autoimmune diseases.
- you can discuss the efficacy and safety of the medicines used to treat cancer and autoimmune diseases.
- you can explain the challenges in vivo and in vitro in developing peptide- and protein-based drugs.
- you can describe the detection of peptide- and protein-based biomarkers and drugs in blood.
Admission to the course
The course is mainly open to students who have been admitted to the 5-year Master`s Programme in Pharmacy at the Department?of Pharmacy, University of Oslo. In the event that space is available, other master`s level students may apply. Knowledge in relevant subject area corresponding to the content of Semester 1 through 7 at the department’s Master`s Programme in Pharmacy is required.
