Merge two tickets in RT

Sometimes the requestor sends two tickets that are similar and should be in one ticket. In that case, it is possible to "merge" the tickets together.

NB: Merging two tickets is an irreversible action. 

  1. Locate both tickets you want to merge together.
  2. Note the ticket number of the ticket you want to keep (retain the ticket number of).
  3. Click on Links in the menu bar of the ticket you want to merge into another ticket.

  4. Enter the ticket number of the ticket you will merge into (that ticket will remain in the same queue and be the ticket number displayed in RT). Then press Save Changes in the lower right corner.

  5. Now, only the ticket you entered in the "Merge into"-field will exist. If you look up the ticket number of the original ticket, RT will automatically redirect you to the merged ticket. 
  6. The result will look like this, where case 1 is merged into case 2. Case 2's ticket number prevails, and it is the queue that case 2 originally belonged to that the merged ticket now resides in.
