An oblig was handed out today. The deadline is November 20. A solution must be handed in and approved in order to be permitted to enter the exam. You may of course discuss the oblig among yourselves. Og det er selvsagt tillatt ? svare p? norsk.
Yesterday I handed out a trial-exam containing two exercises with several points on each. This trial-exam should not be handed in; but it is recommended that you try it all as well as you can. It will be discussed on Monday, November 6. On Monday, October 30 there will be no exercises, but 3 hour's lecture from Chapter 7.
There will be no exercises on Monday, October 23. With 3 hours' lecture I hope to cover Chapter 6.
For later use, in particular for the 'obligatorisk oppgave', which will come near the end of the course, it will be assumed that all students have some knowledge to the package R (or S-plus, which is similar, but R is free)
In linux you start R by giving the command R in a shell-window. In windows you click an icon. Then you can give various commands, for instance x<-rnorm(10) gives you 10 standard normal numbers.
R can be downloaded from the Cran homepage . Here you also can find an introduction to R under Manuals. Version 2.4.0 of R has just been released.
Exercises for October 16: 'Ekstraoppgaver for STK4030' Exercise 2 and 3. Exercise 1 will be postponed. The whole set of 'Ekstraoppgaver' can be found here
Exercises for October 9: 'Ekstraoppgaver for STK4030' Exercise 1 and Exercise 2, which were handed out and which also can be found on the homepage for STK4030 year 2004, regne?velser, September 27. On the same homepage you can find the data set for Exercise 2 as kyphosis data, and also a receipt for taking this data set into R. The data set can also be found here

Exercises for September 25 are: 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9
Exercises for September 18 are: a) Prove the equations 2.13, 2.16, 2.18, 2.21 and 2.23; b) 3.2 and 3.3.

a) From Monday on the lectures will really be in English, since we now have several English-speaking students.
b) Exercises for Monday are 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3.
c) Remember that the lectures start at 12.30, not 12.15.
All students requiring English translations of their exam papers must report this using "StudentWeb" before September 1st

Welcome to STK4030. The lectures will be in English this time, but of course everybody can also address me in Norwegian. The lectures will start with two hours on August 21.
