For later use, in particular for the 'obligatorisk oppgave', which will come near the end of the course, it will be assumed that all students have some knowledge to the package R (or S-plus, which is similar, but R is free)

In linux you start R by giving the command R in a shell-window. In windows you click an icon. Then you can give various commands, for instance x<-rnorm(10) gives you 10 standard normal numbers.

R can be downloaded from the Cran homepage . Here you also can find an introduction to R under Manuals. Version 2.4.0 of R has just been released.
