MAT1125 – Advanced linear Algebra
Course description
Course content
MAT1125 – Advanced linear Algebra expands on the knowledge of linear algebra from MAT1105 – Linear algebra and numerical methods, and is a natural continuation of this. The course covers topics such as orthogonality, the method of least squares, the singular value decomposition, infinite dimensional vector spaces, spectral theory, and Fourier series.?
Learning outcome
After completing the course you have good knowledge of the following topics.
-
inner products, orthogonality
-
the method of least squares
-
spectral theory
-
the singular value decomposition and applications to analysis of large data sets
-
abstract and normed vector spaces
-
basis, dimension and subspaces
-
examples of ?infinite dimensional normed vector spaces, such as the set of ?continuous functions with the supremun norm
-
inner product spaces, Hilbert spaces, and basic theory for these
-
Fourier series.
Admission to the course
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for?in Studentweb.
Special admission requirements
In addition to fulfilling the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, applicants have to meet the following special admission requirements:
