MBV3040 – Biochemistry of the nucleic acids

Course content

Nucleotide metabolism. DNA and RNA structure. Chromatin structure, DNA methylation, histone modification. DNA replication and repair. RNA transcription, processing of mRNA, regulation of gene activity

Learning outcome

Knowledge if how nucleotides are synthesized and degraded in cells. An understanding of structure-function relationships for nucleic acids and chromatin. Knowledge of the enzymatic basis of replication of and error correction in the genome. An understanding of how genes are read and how the transcribed RNA is processed, and how genes are regulated through a coordinated collaboration between proteins and nucleic acid sequences. Critical reading of scientific papers and presentation of these.

Admission

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.
