Oral exam December 7, 2005, location Astrofysikk third floor 10.00-10.45 Wojciech 10.45-11.30 ?yvind 11.30-12.15 Kostis 12.15-13.00 Peter Examination will consist of two parts: 1) general quetions from the course curriculium and 2) possible discussion of results obtained in the two projects.
Week 46: MonteCarlo (MC) methods (Compendium), Effects of collisions via MC methods, Null-collision algorithm (Eur. Phys. J. Appl. Phys. 26,177-185,2004) Two-stream instability project: BL 5.6-9, deadline 24/11
Week 44: Lectures: BL chapter 10, Exercizes: 8-6a, 8-7c. Derive the NGP dispersion relation for finite size particles and grid effects for a cold non-drifting plasma, starting with eq. 8-11(8). Compare with the corresponding CIC result.
Week 42 and 43: Lectures: Finish Birdsall & Langdon chapter 8 during week 42. No lecture in week 43. Exercize: Do the complete Cold Plasma Oscillation project described in section 5-4. Write a report documenting your finding, including necessary figures. Deadline October 31.
Weeks 40 and 41: Lectures: Birdsall & Langdon sections 4.6-10, 8.1-6
Week 39: Exercises BL 4-3a,b, 4-4a,c
Week 38 and 39: Lectures Compendium chapter 4 and Birdsall & Langdon chapters 1-4.5
