When you decide to write a new e-mail in Outlook, your e-mail is initially not formatted. You can for example not create bulleted lists, highlight text and use different text colors. If you see that the BasicText option is disabled, this means that formatting is turned off. This is often appropriate since it provides an e-mail that is simple and straightforward, but sometimes you may need formatting.
1. To write an e-mail with formatted text, open the Format Text menu
2. Choose HTML.
Basic Text is now activated and you can format text just like in a word processing document.
Styles in e-mail
If you write long emails, you may want to use styles (Styles). Select from the menu that appears when you right-click in an e-mail when Basic text is enabled.
