UiO:Life Science plans the launch of the SPARK innovation programme, developed by Stanford University. The goal is to get more innovation out of basic research. The other two European SPARK programs visit Oslo this summer to share their experiences, and one of UiO's PhD students will test the program's summer school in Japan.

Shinya Yamanaka, 2012 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, will visit Oslo on September 6. He will give a lecture about a new era of medicine with induced pluripotent stem cells – iPS cells – and participate in a panel discussion about the ethical aspects of stem cell therapy. The events are open to all.

UiO:Life Science is one of three large interdisciplinary strategic areas at UiO. Our strategy states that we shall strengthen quality and interaction in research; recruit, educate and develop talents; and promote innovation in the life sciences related to environment and health. A life sciences building, which is planned for completion in 2023, is a significant aspect of our work.

Quality assurance of the management base and cost estimates before the project is submitted to Parliament for approval and funding (QA2) of the planned life science building at UiO started August 16th according to the time schedule and is to be finished till Christmas.
