Writing the basic code for data transformation and estimation is  essential for documentation of empirical work. For example for your thesis.

I have collected almost all you need to master in a file that uses the two datasets from Seminar 1 in a batch file that has been posted under Seminars.

Will start there in Computer Class today. Then AR(1), AR(2) and getting on to ARDL models

Including a little bit of Monte Carlo simulation

Note that among the three data sets that we used in today's lecture, two were real world data:  the US labour force participation data from the textbook, and the Norwegian data for inflation and unemployment. The  Norwegian inflaton/U data we will work more with.

The third data set was an artifical computer generated time series for an AR(1) process. The code is posted under Computer Class.

I have added the data and two batch-files (extension .fl) to the PCM and "natural rate" example. Will mention them in CC-2 as well.

Next week I will talk briefly about multiple testing (Lecture 2),  about the important distiction between theoretical and empirical models and we will start with dynamics, our main theme for the rest of the course.

And Herman will go throuh the first semianr set with you.

I have posted some answer notes to the 5 Do IT Yourself (DIY) exercises in the slide set to Lecture 1. It is best that you formulate an answer yourself first, and then check my notes.

If you cannot reconcile your own answers with mine (or if you cannpt see the point with these questions!): talk to fellow students about it. Or indeed with me !

More notes like this will follow during the term. Cannot promise that I will put a note about it each time though. So stay tuned !
