ENT4000I ¨C From idea to business - Intensive

Course content

This course gives you an introduction to how ideas and opportunities can be created or discovered and?developed into creative solutions with value?for users. Unlike?traditional management thinking where planning and prediction are common tools, you will learn effectual, agile, and design-driven methods, and ways of thinking for?dealing with cases of innovation?characterized by uncertainty. Through practical and interdisciplinary group work you'll gain experience?in?how such entrepreneurial processes can be carried out.

Learning outcome

After taking ENT4000I you'll:

• have acquired a theoretical and practical understanding of how an opportunity or knowledge-based business idea is developed and how such ideas can form the basis for new businesses
• know the relationship between entrepreneurship and innovation
• know the relationship between entrepreneurial and traditional management perspectives on risk and uncertainty
• have mastered relevant methods and tools to?assess the potential for value creation in opportunities and ideas
• understand the content of a business model and corresponding entrepreneurial processes
• be able to communicate?ideas and business ideas orally and in writing
• have experience working in multidisciplinary teams

Admission to the course

Students who are admitted to the Gr¨¹nderskolen, Social Entrepreneurship and MSc in Entrepreneurship at UiO are given priority.

Note that not attend the first day of teaching without special prior approval or medical certificate?will result in being removed from the course.

Formal prerequisite knowledge

Bachelor?s degree or equivalent required.

Overlapping courses

• 5 credits overlap with ENT4500 ¨C Social Entrepreneurship (discontinued).
• 3 credits overlap with ENT4000 ¨C Business Creation.

Teaching

Three sessions early in the semester with teaching Friday afternoon and Saturday. Lectures and group lessons. In addition, approx. two lectures with follow-up group lessons in the afternoon/evening throughout the semester.

The teaching in the course is compulsory. Note that the first meeting will be held in mid-January. You must attend at least 80% of all teaching activity to take the exam.

Examination

Summary report count 40% towards the final grade and oral presentation count 60%. Both parts are submitted in groups based on group work throughout the course. Both parts must be passed and both must be passed the same semester. Students in the same group receive the same grade. Students who have not fulfilled their obligations in the group work can be assessed individually.

If any appeal against the grade of the summary report leads to a change in grade, no new oral exam will be held unless everyone in the group has submitted an appeal against the grade. This as the oral exam in this subject is held as a group presentation.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Resit an examination

Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.

Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination
