The mandatory assignments are now marked. Three students had accepted assignments from previous years, and 16 assignments were accepted this year. The list of acceptances is now sent to the faculty.

The lecture on Wednesday November 19 will be moved to Seminar room B 70 in the Math. building. This room is next to the recreation area on the 7th floor.

The mandatory assignments will be returned with individual comments this morning, and may be collected from the Expedition Office. The deadline for those temporarily rejected will be Tuesday November 18, 14.30. You may leave them at the expedition office or deliver them by hand to Dag Normann. Do not leave them in Dag Normann's mailbox.

The mandatory assignments will be returned on Thursday Nov. 13 at the latest. For those assignments that are temporarily rejected, the new deadline will be Thuesday Nov. 18, at 14.30. Final acceptance/rejection is due on Thursday Nov. 20.

Dag Normann will be available for students in MAT4300 in room B 828 between 13.00 and 15.00 on the following Wednesdays, unless a counter-message is given as a supplement to this message: 05.11 and 26.11. On Wednesday 19.11 he will be available from 12.10 to 12.55.

In the mandatory assignment, Problem 2a), both m and k are supposed to be integers. Apparently this was not so evident from the context as intended. Do not try to solve this problem for x = 1, or alternatively, correct the misprint and change < to ≤ in the definition of f_n.

Thanks to a discovery by one of the students, there is a correction of problem 5b) of the mandatory assignment. The two instances of the ordering << was written in the wrong order. The version on the web is now correct. The correction is on page 4.

The deadline for the mandatory assignment is Friday November 7, and not Thursday as erroneously stated until this morning.

The problem set will be made available on Friday October 24 around lunchtime.

The course evaluation that took place on September 23 resulted in two constructive suggestions. The students want suggestions for alternative literature and that we prepare for the exams during the term. We will come back to the suggestions for alternative literature. There is a link to old exams on the web page. We will start solving exam problems as soon as we have the necessary background.

More students than expected signed on to MAT4300 this year, and we have to move to larger rooms. The lectures will take place in Vilhelm Bjerknes' House, Auditorium 3 on Tuesdays and Auditorium 4 on Wednesdays. [In an earlier version of this message, the rooms were switched.]
