The lectures during the last week of the course will not cover anything new. Instead you get the chance to ask questions and discuss exercises. The plan is as follows:

Tuesday Nov 17. First half we discuss the recommended exercises for Section 5.9, and maybe also some other exercises. The second half we discuss material from the course besed on your suggestions and questions.

Friday Nov 20. First half we discuss solutions to some of the problems from the old exams that I have recommended. You can also find the solutions here. The second half we discuss material from the course based on your suggestions and questions.

Please e-mail me if you want me to discuss some particular part of the course. Also e-mail me if you want to take part on these lectures via zoom.

Misspelling in some of the lecture videos from last week: Should be Christoffel symbols, not Cristoffel symbols

Exercise 5.4.5 b). Should be (sin u)/(cosh v) in the second coordinate, not (sin u)/(cosh u)

Hi,

I have uploaded hints for problem solving session 2, and also a list of things that are good to know at the point of the exam. You find it in the forelesningsnotater-folder.

Next week I will give you hints for PSS 3 and 4.

e-mail me or come to the lectures if you need more help to solve the exercises, or if you have some questions about the ''good to know''-list.

will be at Blindern

Hi all,

I uploaded some old exams in the folder to the left, so that you can practice you skills.

Since we will have an oral exam, we will avoid too complicated calculations and instead focus on the conceptual understanding of the material. For example, the calculations needed to solve Problem 5 e) in the exam from 2018 are too involved, but make sure you understand which steps that are needed to solve it. Same thing applies to Problem 1,2 from 2014, and Problem 5 from 2011.

Recommended exercixes for the problem solving session Friday 13/11 are

Section 5.1: 4,5,6
Section 5.3: 1
 Section 5.4: 5 b), 6,7
Section 5.5: 1,2,5,10 (using text from exercise 7 and 9)
 Section 5.6: 2,6,11
 Section 5.7: 2
 Section 5.9: 5,6,7

Hi all,

I've got a cold so there will be no lecture at Blindern today. I will try to publish a video version of the lecture during the day.

Published Oct. 30, 2020 1:18 PM

It will take place on November 24 and 25.

The main part will consist of a presentation of a subject related to the course. We will tell you what the subject is at least 10 days before the exam. The presentation should take 20 minutes.

You will then get some questions about your presentation, and then we finish the exam with some questions about the rest of the content of the course.

You can choose between having the exam at Blindern or at zoom.

Please e-mail me to tell:
Which of the days 24, 25 you prefer
If you prefer zoom or Blindern

Next week I will publish a ''practice exam'' adapted to the oral exam.

Published Oct. 29, 2020 3:40 PM

The teaching continues as before. I will continue to publish lecture notes, and to upload zoom videos in case there is noone attending the corresponding lecture at Blindern.

Tomorrow you will get more information about the oral exam, and hopefully there will be a schedule available where you can book a time slot for it.

Hi,

It is now decided that there will be an oral exam instead of the written exam. I will come back with more information as soon as possible.

Tomorrow there will be a problem solving session where we discuss the recommended exercises. You will also have chance to ask questions about the mandatory assignment.

Hi all,

I've created a course evaluation which you can find here: https://nettskjema.no/a/167291

Please take your time and answer the questions, at latest Monday October 19, 15.00. Your answers are anonymous.

One question are about the format of the exam, since it is decided by the NM faculty that there will be no physical exams in the facilities in Silurveien this autumn.

Hi,

I made some changes in the lecture plan, since we spent a bit more time on classifying real M?bius transformations than I had planned from the beginning.

Next lecture we will talk about sections 2.5, 2.6 and finish section 2.7.

Recommended exercises for the next problem solving session (October 2): 2.2.2, 2.3.1, 2.3.8, 2.5.4, 2.6.1, 2.7.4

I uploaded some hints for the exercises from problem solving session 1 in the forelesningsnotater-folder.

Hi,

I've now uploaded my lecture notes for lecture 1 - 5 in the folder Forelesningsnotater to the left. I will not upload my suggested solutions for the exercises on the problem solving session. If you want to see the solution for some particular exercises, then please e-mail me and I will send it to you.

Hi,

I haven't recovered completely from my cold yet, so we better meet online tomorrow too. I will publish videos where I lecture in blackboard format. Take a look at these videos (and take notes!) and then join the zoom meeting at 11.30 to discuss the material. You can access the videos from the schedule tab, and you find the zoom link at canvas.

Hope to see you tomorrow

Cecilia

Dear all,

tomorrows lecture will be online. This since it seems like I've got a cold and should stay away from other people.

I will publish some lecture videos, hopefully tonight, and latest tomorrow at 9 a.m. The lecture will then be organized as follows:

You watch the videos and try to answer the questions.

At 11 a.m. there will be a zoom meeting where we discuss the material and the questions from the videos. (This means that you should have watched the videos before we meet at zoom).

I'm sorry for the inconvenience and I hope that I will recover quickly.
