MNHMS0015ES – Introduction to Electricity Safety

Course content

The goal is to ensure that students of instrument laboratories have a good and safe learning environment. The use of electricity and electrical equipment entails some risk. In order to work safely when using electrical equipment  and instruments in the laboratory it is important to have some knowledge of current and voltage, as well as knowledge of hazards and precautions.

Learning outcome

After completing the course you should have the following knowledge:

  • Routines and procedures for working on the instrument laboratories.
  • Roles and responsibilities.
  • Safe use of electrical appliances and instruments.
  • Some important electrical concepts, such as Static electricity, high voltage, low voltage electrical isolation (isolation transformer), double insulation, fixed installations and grounding system.
  • Prevention of injuries and accidents.

Other students who need to have one or more courses which have MNHMS0015ES as a compulsory prerequisite.

Teaching

Teaching includes a one 45 minutes lecture at the beginning of each semester. Participation is required to pass the course.

The course uses Fronter.

Access to teaching

A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.

Examination

To pass the MNHMS0015ES you must have obtained an approval for having participated in the teaching. You are responsible for ensuring that your attendance is registered at the lecture.

Evaluation

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.

This course is compulsory and an ??attendance record is kept. Illness or other valid reasons of absence must be documented by a medical certificate or other equivalent documentation. Medical certificates can be delivered to MN-studieinfo during opening hours or sent to the office by post. Remember to state which course and for which date the medical certificate applies to.
All students who have been away for the entire course or parts of the course must take the equivalent course or parts of course the next time it is offered (at the beginning of the following semester).
Students who have not passed MNHMS0015ES - Introduction to Electricity Safety will not get their degree approved, if the course is compulsory in the program requirements, or if it is formal prerequisite knowledge for any of the courses in the degree.
