HMS0505 – Electricity Safety
Course content
The course discusses the dangers associated electricity both for persons and property and provide a brief review of the danger level at current (I) and voltage (V). Moreover affected issues related to grounding and electrostatic discharge (ESD).
The module will be appropriate for most situation you find yourself in at UiO as well as at home.
Learning outcome
After completing the course you should have knowledge of:
- Gained awareness that your work with electricity can harm others
- Electrical terms that are essential for safety
- The hazards of working with electricity and consider risk
- The actions that can reduce risk
- First aid in case of damage from electricity
Admission to the course

- Students taking a course having HMS0505?as a prerequisite

Teaching
The course is offered as digital self-study in Canvas.
Please note that the course has a digital online exam, and you must be both registered for teaching and registered for the exam for the correct semester in order to receive a passing result in Student Web.
Examination
The self-study course includes an integrated digital exam that must be passed in order to pass the course. Please note that you must be both registrered for teaching and registered for the exam in HMS0505 for the correct semester to receive a passing result in StudentWeb.
The digital exam consists of multiple-choice questions and can be taken many times. When the exam is approved in Canvas, you will receive an email with a course certificate, but the course is not considered passed until the result is visible under “Results” in StudentWeb.
Students who have not passed HMS0505 – Electricity Safety will not receive an approved degree from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences if HMS0505 is mandatory in the programme or a required prerequisite for courses in the degree.
