The final report must be delivered by December 15, 23:59 using Devilry
We have added some more details about what we mean by strategies in assignment 5.
Friday 18th November: No guest lecture! Unfortunately, our guest lecturer had to cancel the scheduled talk. Thus, there is no lecture this week.
Friday 11th November, we have a guest lecture by Hugo Kohman, COO Dolphin Interconnect Solutions. We start at 09.15.
Friday 28th October, we have a guest lecture by Torgeir Hovden, CTO Comoyo. Comoyo provides video streaming services on web. We start at 09.15.
Friday 21st October, we start with an introduction to distributed processing which will be your next assignment. At 10.15, we will have a guest lecture by Rui Casais, CTO Funcom.
Friday 14th October, we start with presentation at 09.15 instead of 08.15.
Some of you have trouble with the limited privileges you have been given on Assignment 3. Some of you have trouble killing programs, and others want permission to clear the disk cache. Therefore, we have made all of you sudoer, which means you can use sudo su to become root. Please behave.
Remember that we start at 10.15 on Friday, 7th October.
There is a small issue with the test machines for assignment 3. Please see the warning added to the assignment text.
The machines for assignment 3 are ready for use. See the assignment text for details.
After your feedback on the first assignment in INF507x, we have decided to make a few changes with respect to the planned workload:
- the number of assignments is reduced from 6 to 5.
- the preliminary reports can be maximum 4 pages for assignments 3 and 4. If you choose to use these in the final delivery for the grading, you may extend them to maximum 6 pages (as said before). For assignment 5, you do not need to deliver any report at all, unless you choose to deliver this as one of your selected 4 (if so, maximum 6 pages as before).
- you have been given a bit more time for assignment number 2 (as Carsten said in the previous lecture). This means that we do not introduce the new topic (server resources and performance) this Friday, but we postpone it until next week. Thus:
- this Friday (23/9) is off - work on the assignment.
As announced in the last lecture, we have extended the second assignment with another week. It is now due on September 29, with a presentation and discussions on September 30.
Comments are working on assignments. You have to log in to use it (bottom of the page)
Assignment 2 is now ready on the web page.
Assignments must be delivered using Devilry . Please note that you must have registered a group before you can deliver, even if you are working alone.
NOTE: Since the date for presenting the first assignment has been moved to September 16, the lecture September 9 starts at 1015.
A few sets of physical machines are now available, and information concerning the steps that are necessary to access them is available from the assignment and tools pages. Because we are delayed, the deadline for the assignment has been moved to September 15. Since Espen is ill right now, please CC: griff@ifi for all requests.
The description of the tools that can be used for assignment 1 has been improved and is now available as a separate link from the course page. It contains also a link to a VirtualBox virtual machine image that allows you to set up a test environment on a single machine.
The text for assignment 1 has been published. Unfortunately due to illness, test computers that we will offer are still not accessible and supporting information is limited.
If you have a laptop, please bring it to the lectures. There will be small exercises to be solved in groups during the lectures where it is nice to lookup information in the Internet.
NB! The course will probably get a new code starting from this semester - INF5072. This is because we will try a different approach to learn about the different topics. More information in the first lecture.
NB! The first lecture (26. Aug) starts at 10.00.
