23.01.2006Dino Karabeg? Ifi, Store Auditorium? Introduction to Information Design? Simply said, information design is conscious creation and use of information. As an academic subject, information design spans a broad variety of interests, ranging from multimedia web design tools to fundamental questions about knowledge and consciousness. The students are invited to explore this rich and exciting space according to their own interest, partly through project work.?
30.01.2006Tommy Nordeng, Ph.D., CEO in CERPUS AS.? Ifi, Store Auditorium? Introduction to Topic Maps ? Topic Maps allow us to organize and find information on the Web. 06.02.2006Dino Karabeg? Store Auditorium, Ifi? Order Design? Information overload puts the very usefulness of information into question. The polyscopic structuring of information offers solutions. ?
13.02.2006Dino Karabeg? Store Auditorium, Ifi? Truth Design? The post-modern relativism discloses our inability to create shared 'truth' (what we as society jointly believe in). Probably the most exciting and at the same time most fundamental novelty brought by information design is that it allows us to create solid, scientific-like facts about questions of common interest, even when those questions are far beyond the scope of traditional sciences.?
20.02.2006Dino Karabeg? Store Auditorium, Ifi? Meaning Design? It is now well known that we are not discovering but creating our picture of reality. In information design we undertake to create the reality picture which can best orient our actions. Like the view from the top of a mountain, the designed information can give us a clear vision and show us where we need to go.?
27.02.2006Dino Karabeg? Store Auditorium, Ifi ? Information, not Manipulation? In what ways can information design help us harness the power of information? First of all by giving us a correct idea or perspective of information, which shows how information really affects us. Second, by giving us a correct perspective of power, which accounts for the pervasive role of information. And finally, by basing information creation and use on a written convention or methodology, which makes information a part of the 'social contract'. ?
06.03.2006Dino Karabeg? Store Auditorium? Information Design Dialog? The challenging questions of the Information Design Course are taken up in a dialog, first in smaller groups and then in plenum. Everyone is invited to contribute questions and ideas.?

20.03.2006Documentary Film projection? Store Auditorium, Ifi? The Corporation? One of the tasks of information design is to discover angles of looking which show large defects in the world we live in. The Corporation is an award-winning documentary which illuminates the pathological sides of contemporary large international corporations in an original and insightful way. This film will serve us both as an example of good information design, and as motivation for some information design developments which will be shown in the course.?
27.03.2006Dino Karabeg ? Store Auditorium, Ifi ? XML, e-Business and Globalization? The HTML has turned the Internet into a world-wide library. The XML has turned the Internet into a world-wide business integration platform. This lecture introduces the main e-business concepts and ideas. Socio-cultural consequences ('globalization') are also discussed. It is shown how e-business and information design may help create an international corporation which 'makes globalization a good thing' (empowers endangered economies and cultures, helps people travel in an authentic way etc.). ?
