Some unfortunate misprints in Chapters 5, 8 and 9 have been fixed, see the page for the lecture notes.
The schedule for Monday's exam is now available, see 'Examination schedule' on the left.
I have been asked to provide a small dictionary that translates the most important spline terms into Norwegian. So far, I haven't found many words which don't have an obvious translation, so I'll try and embed the dictionary in this message. If you remember other words that should be on the list, please send me an email.
knot - skj?t
blossom - blomstring
local support - lokal b?rer
knot averages - skj?tgjennomsnitt
joins - skj?ter
refinement - forfining
recurrence relations - rekursjonsformler
chord length - kordelengde
The syllabus page on the left should now be visible.
Note that I will answer questions related to the course Monday, May 30 at 12.15 in B1036.
I discovered that the text preceding Theorem 9.17 was outdated so I've edited this and published a new version of Chapter 9.
May 10. Yet another version of Chapter 9 is available. I've corrected some misprints and added a few comments. Nothing major.
I have published a new version of Chapter 4. The proof of convergence of the control polygon has been moved to Chapter 9. Instead there is a more informal introduction to knot insertion in Chapter 4. In addition, the proof of Theorem 4.7 should (hopefully) be easier to understand as there is now an introduction which discusses change of bases for polynomials.
Today will be the last lecture. I will cover Sections 10.1 and 10.2.1. The rest of Chapter 10 will not be part of the syllabus.
I have fixed up Chapter 9 of the notes quite a bit; no new material, but a polish of what was already there. And I've moved the section on convergence of the control polygon to this chapter form Chapter 4. A new version of Chapter 4 that reflects this will be out soon. On Monday I intend to lecture on Sections 9.2.3 and Sections 9.3 and 9.4.
We've already agreed on June 6 as the date for the exam - I hope this is still OK. If not, please let me know as soon as possible.
The lecture this coming Monday (May 2) will start at approx. 12.30. I'll be at a meeting in morning and will be late for the lecture, but reckon we'll be able to start at this time.
Text and data for the final assignment has been published, see under 'Compulsory assignments' on the left.
Since the date for handing in assignment 3 had to be postponed, I feel that there will not be enough time to have two more assignments. I have therefore decided to reduce the number of assignments to 4. There were one or two who did not complete assignment 2 in the good faith that they could skip one assignment. The minimum requirement for taking the final exam is therefore now that 3 of the 4 assigments must be passed and one of the passed ones must be the last one. The deadline for the last assignment is still May 2 and the text will be published this week.
New versions of Chapters 2 and 3 of the notes are now available. In Chapter 2 I have added some more details about the spline algorithms at the end. In both chapters I have corrected a number of misprints and hopefully improved the language.
April 4 and 11 the lectures will last from 12.15 until 15.
The transparencies that I used for the seminar on writing on March 10 can be found under 'other' on the left.
The deadline for handing in assignment 3 has been changed to Monday April 4. You should also note that I have changed the text of assignment 3 slightly in that you may do problem 4.4 instead of problems 4.5, 4.7 and 4.9.
We're lagging a little bit behind in the lectures, but on February 28 I'll try and catch up by lecturing from 12.15 until 15.
The language of the web page has been changed to English. I have also published a complete lecture plan (there will probably be changes) and a page for the assignments. The text for the first three assignments is there; the text for the last two will be published later.
