LECTURE today.Hi everyone. There will be a lecture today. It seems like you have to "enter the building" at the entrance downstairs (close to the library). We will have the lecture at Skolestua as normal. Welcome.
IMPORTANT
Due to the spill of chemicals in the basement of "Geologibygget" there is a risk that the building is closed. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out if the building is closed or not. My personal guess is that the building will be open, and the lecture will run as normal.
The third lecture is quite fundamental for course, so i recommend that you attend.
See you :)
RegardsKnut-Endre
Hi everyone
There will be a mandatory lab demonstration of sample preparations on Thursday 22nd of September at 11:15. Meet Mufak at the main entrance. IF you are unable to come, tell us in advance.
Best regardsKnut-Endre
There are now available some files at Fronter . These are one presentation of the content of GEO4830 and two files for R (demo1R.R and data1height.txt).
Litterature for electron microscopy is Electron Microprobe Analysis and Scanning Electron Microscopy in Geology. It is available at the library, but I will recommend that you buy it as a Kindle version at amazon.com or as a paperback at www.capris.no The price for the paperback is 163 kroner
A pdf file with a short introduction to R is now posted at FRONTER. Please log in to GEO4830 to download the file.
We will go through some simple, descriptive statistics in the second lecture. At the library, there is an e-book available, Miller and Miller . Take a look at Chapter 2 in this book before the second lecture. NB! Be aware that you have to be either logged in on the UiO net or have a VPN connection if you are outside the UiO net. To set up a VPN-client please look at USIT's page
First lecture will be divided in two parts. The first part will be some practical information (first hour or so), the second part will be a short introduction to the statistical software R. If you have a laptop, please bring this to the class. You will get help to install the software and have a "kick start" introduction, doing some simple calculations. I will post a small paper on Fronter within Wednesday.
Welcome!
