Some practical information about the field trip to And?ya.
You should bring proper clothes since we will spend some time outdoors. The clothes should be warm, water- and windproof, and a cap could be nice. We'll spend some time indoors as well, so you could bring indoor shoes. (The main teaching and eating areas are in the same building as we live.)
You'll get one towel to use during the stay. If you need more, bring some with you. There is a small gym on the premises which we could use. Remember to bring clean, indoor running shoes if you want to use the treadmill.
Here is a link to the lidar site - ALOMAR - http://alomar.rocketrange.no/. It is advised that you make yourself familiar with ALOMAR before the trip. Chapter 7.6 in the text book presents the basics behind the lidar.
To answer any questions you may have, we'll have a short meeting on Monday 17 at 16.00. We'll meet up outside the reading room.

There will be no mid-term examination in GEF 4320 this semester. However, in order to be eligible for the final examination in December, everyone must: a) Present a scientific paper, and b) Participate in the And?ya field excursion, and have a written field report approved. The deadline for having a scientific paper for presentation approved has passed.
We'll start the presentations for the compulsory exercise on Wednesday 15 October. This time we will move to room Castellanus on the floor below Metos in Ciens. But the time is the same; 9.15-11.00. The first two out will be Harold and Tamar. The first hour will be devoted to the remaining exercises from last week.
Compulsory exercise. The paper should be approved by Monday 6 October by Jon Egill (j.e.kristjansson@geo.uio.no). We will start the presentations on 15 October. The presentations should be 18-20 minutes long. The order of the presentations will be decided on 8 October.
Exercises for Wednesday 8 October are 3.17, 3.18 and 4.1. Note that 4.1 could be solved by programming (e.g. using matlab).
Exercises for Wednesday 24 September are 1.20 and 1.23.
The exercises will go as planed. That is, on Wednesday 17 September 9.15.
Exercises for Wednesday 17 September: 1.19, 1.20 and 1.21.
First group session is next Tuesday (9/9). Please prepare exercises 1.1, 1.6 and 1.7. The students will be asked to do the exercises on the blackboard. If you have any question please contact me at jornk@met.no.
