Oxygen molecules do not have an extra binding energy to themselves, thus equation (2) should be like this

Equation (4) for the mean occupation number should look like this

Hi

I hope you have all got a good start on your exam. I answer questions on padlet between 9 and 16 today and tomorrow. I will open another zoom session for individual discussion with me tomorrow morning from 9 to 10: https://uio.zoom.us/j/62653046644

Good luck!

Many students have shared their concerns about the exam on the padlet. I understand that you are worried about the amount of work and the difficulty of the exam. I will do the following to make sure that the exam will not be too long and that it will not be too difficult:

  • I will go through your obligs to learn which type of questions were understandable to you and which were useful to judge your understanding
  • I will reduce the amount of questions in the second part where you will be asked for a report-like, coherent text.
  • I will add more stepwise guidance for how to solve the second part.
  • I will have all the group teachers in the course go through the exam to help me judge the difficulty and amount of work

I have made available all the exams I have from 1985-2019. The exams from 2013-2019 are all rele...

Hi

Only 4 students participated at the lecture on Monday. I guess you are too busy or not interested in going through problems and examples now. During Wednesday's lecture slot 14:15-16 I will therefore just keep an open Zoom room for questions on oblig 4.

Hi

We are sorry that due to the new rules we have to make some changes:

The group session tomorrow will run as planned. After that all teaching in Fys2160 will be only digital.

You should also receive an email from the Department of Physics today with the new rules.

We will try to finish correcting oblig 3 by Wednesday (11.11.) night.

Those who have exam in Fys3110 and need extra time for oblig 4 can contact Vidar.

Extra tip for oblig 4: The pressure difference between inside and outside a sphere with surface tension is called the Laplace pressure.

I found an error in equation (7) and have uploaded a new version in the same place.

Publisert 5. nov. 2020 09:35

I am very sorry for the delay. Oblig 4 is now available here.

Today's lecture will be postponed until Monday 9.11. Unfortunately I have been incapacitated, but I will surely hold the zoom lecture on week 45 exercises on Monday.

From Thursday 29.10. there are new rules for infection prevention. Our faculty and department heads considers that some types of teaching with physical presence at UiO is necessary. Therefore they leave it to us as teachers to decide when physical presence is necessary. To me it is important that you get the help you need to learn the subject. I therefore want you to tell me of your needs. Please spend 1-2 minutes to answer this questionnaire.

Today, Thursday 29.10. 16-18 we will keep the "regneverksted" open both for physical presence and virtually over Zoom. If you think physical presence is important for your learning (and for example completing Oblig3) you are welcome at Blindern today. If you think you can cope with help over Zoom, please stay at home. The zoom link will follow.

Here is Oblig 3

You have had a solid work load on the Obligs and labs so far. Therefore this oblig will be much shorter and quicker than the others. If you know the subject well you should not spend a full day on it. This means it is shorter than a two days home exam.

I have been requested to postpone Oblig 4. This will not be possible because we need to report to the administration who has passed 3 obligs and are allowed to take the exam. We therefore strongly advise you to do oblig 3.

Since the deadline for the lab report is October 30 I have postponed the 3rd oblig by one week. For the two last obligs I will try to get closer to the work load of the exam (2 days).

I learnt this afternoon that many students have struggled with the expression for Gibbs free energy because I forgot to give you some necessary hints. I have uploaded a new version of the lab text for the numerical part. I have also added some more hints for how to determine the coexistence line.

See the compendium eqs. (9.134)-(9.138)

I'm sorry that I did not tell you explicitly that you need not calculate and plot the part that depends on only T/T_c. You can leave out f'(T') in (9.138) when plotting g(V') and g(P').

I've been pretty dim-witted when reading your requests for the solutions to the exercises of week 39. Until yesterday I thought you wanted answer to the quizzes in the lectures. Then I thought you just wanted answers to weekly exercises (which in general we do not publish, (go to regneverksted!)). But of course you want the solution to 3.34 in Schroeder because I have referred to it in the oblig! I'm sorry!
I've pasted it into a post on the padlet.

Dear students of Fys2160

The coming two weeks you will do lab exercise number 2. Here are some instructions:

- Sign up now the same way as last time

- There is an experimental part and a numerical part like last time and we want a joint report like last time.

- Read the texts and see the video before you come. The more you prepare the less stressful your day will be.

- Several students of Fys2160 have been infected by Covid-19 lately. Please follow the national infection control guidelines. Read also the infection prevention guidelines for the lab.

- If you cannot come to the lab you will have access to a video of the experiments, a data set from the experiments and supervision by zoom during the lab hours.

Tomorrow, Monday 12 Oct. there will not be a new lecture, but I will be available on zoom (https://uio.zoom.us/j/2351841639), email and padlet...
