NORINT0114 – Norwegian for International Students, 60 hour Introductory Course

Course content

This is a beginner’s course for international students.

Students develop basic communicative skills in Norwegian. Students learn to make themselves understood both orally and in writing using basic vocabulary and basic grammatical structures. Examples of topics covered are talking about oneself and one’s family and hobbies.

This is a proficiency course with a final examination.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, the students are able to communicate about topics covered in the course. Students are able to express themselves coherently both orally and in writing. They are able to express thoughts and opinions about everyday topics. Their pronunciation is good enough to not disrupt communication. They are able to use and understand basic grammar covered in the course.

The final mark will show to what extent the student has attained the intended learning outcome of the course.

Formal prerequisite knowledge

The prerequisite for this course is basic entrance requirements, with the exception of requirements relating to Norwegian.

Overlapping courses

Teaching

Six hours per week for 10 weeks, 60 hours in total. This is a course that requires active student participation. Each week, the students will be given written and/or oral assignments.

Compulsory activities

In order to sit for the examination, the following compulsory assignments must be approved by the teacher:

  • 75 % attendance (45 hours)
  • One compulsory oral presentation

Access to teaching

If you have completed compulsory instruction and have had this approved, you are not entitled to repeat that instruction. If you have been admitted to the course, but have not completed compulsory instruction or had this approved, you are entitled to new instruction permitting available capacity.

Examination

The exam is a 3-hour written examination.

In order to sit for the examination, the compulsory activities must be approved.

Approved compulsory activities are valid for the next two terms that the course is offered.

Language of examination

The examination text is given in Norwegian, and you submit your response in Norwegian.
