KUN4014 – Introduction to Methods and Project Development in Curating and Heritage of Modernism

Course content

The course introduces theories and methods directly related to the planning of KUN4900 – Masterprosjekt i kuratering, kritikk og modernismens kulturarv and KUN4190 – Mastergradsessay i kuratering / modernismens kulturarv.?

Guidance is also provided in drafting project descriptions.

The course is divided into two phases. In phase I, students receive an introduction to the use of library resources and relevant special archives, as well as the opportunity to visit institutions with central collections. You read the common syllabus for writing a master's thesis (approximately 250 pages).

In phase II, students choose which direction of practice they want to go: either curating art exhibitions or preserving the cultural heritage of modernism. In the teaching, you will be introduced to theories related to curatorial practice as well as preserving the cultural heritage of modernism. You read a common introductory syllabus (approx. 300 pages) plus a self-selected syllabus (300-400 pages) that provides an in-depth study of a topic that could also be a possible topic for the master's degree essay.
