Abstract:
Throughout academia, we are told to publish or perish. For most of us, however, there is a tradeoff between how many papers we can publish and how good they are. So if we publish a lot, the quality suffers. In the field of economics, there is a very strong focus on good publications. A person with a handful of top publications is easily judged as a better economist than one with a large number of publications, even if many of them are in fairly good journals. In this presentation, I will explain how I see the economist’s view of publication and discuss some pros and cons.
