Colossus is the TSD HPC cluster and is offered by UiO in collaboration with Sigma2 AS. Colossus access is a service on demand and any applicant will get access to the small UiO allocation by default. We strongly recommend you to use the much larger Sigma2 owned resources on Colossus, send an application to Sigma2.
Key numbers
Colossus is a cluster designed to handle multiple concurrent jobs and accommodate users with different requirements. The cluster profile is for medium range parallel applications with high memory and/or IO demands. Colossus consists of 64 compute nodes, 4 big memory nodes, 6 GPU accelerated nodes and 2 FPGA accelerated bioinformatics nodes running CentOS 7. The nodes are connected via Infiniband interconnect to a 3PB+ IBM ESS GPFS filesystem.
Allocations
The resources have been split across 3 allocations and access depends on whether quota/resources have been assigned to the project:
- Sigma2 allocation: available to projects which have requested and received quota from Sigma2
- TSD/UiO allocation: available to projects with HPC access set up
- Dedicated resources: several projects acquired one or more nodes for exclusive access
