Closing down use of agents in Copilot and MS 365

Copilot is Microsoft's AI which can be found in most Microsoft apps. Now Copilot also includes AI agents, small "helpers" that can perform tasks for you. Since the use of such agents has not been properly asssessed, UiO is closing down ther use.

Easy to use

Some agents have been easy to use because they have been available from a menu in Microsoft's Copilot app and from the chat menu on office.com. Other agents could be downloaded from an "Agent store" in Copilot, and it has also been possible to create your own agents.

Has not been assessed

UiO has decided to shut down the use of these agents until further notice, as the necessary assessments to ensure that the services are suitable for use have not been conducted. Such assessments should always be carried out when new services are made available to users at UiO. The assessments to be conducted include evaluating whether privacy and security are sufficiently safeguarded.

Closed down until further notice

The IT department is working to determine whether it is possible to use agents safely and will provide new information if the use of agents in Copilot is allowed later.

Can I have used agents without knowing it?

No. To use an agent, you must select it from a menu. If you have not done so, you have not used an agent.

What should I do if I have used an agent?

You will see that you can no longer use it. If you have questions about this, please contact IT support, UiO's central IT support
