Sending and reading encrypted emails

Note:

• You cannot remove the encryption from an email that is encrypted in this manner. Recipients of encrypted emails must use Outlook on Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android.
• If the recipient's email has been migrated to MS365, they can also read encrypted emails from the new webmail at outlook.office.com.

Encrypting an email with sensitive information:

1. Enter the recipients of the email.
2. Click on No label, and select Red (In Confidence). Making this selection will encrypt the email. 
    

   

3. Enter the subject and content of the email. Note that emails with sensitive content classified as red according to UiO's current classification guide can only be sent internally within UiO and not to external recipients.
4. Recipients of emails with sensitivity labels can only access the content using Outlook and are advised to use https://outlook.office.com.

Note that if you attach a document with the sensitivity label Red (In Confidence) to an email, the email will automatically inherit the same sensitivity label and be encrypted.

Note that you can only send and receive emails with sensitivity labels in OWA if your mailbox is in Microsoft 365 (outlook.office365.com). Users of OWA (webmail - mail.uio.no) cannot send or receive emails with sensitivity labels.
