Medication use during pregnancy, healthy aging, cancer, organoid technology, fibrosing diseases and cognitive function throughout life. These are societal challenges that will be examined by new interdisciplinary life science research groups at the University of Oslo.

Forty-two students have gained work experience from a research project with a scholarship from UiO:Life Science this summer. The end of this year's summer projects was celebrated with presentations, poster exhibition and prize ceremony on 19 October.

Maia Bangsund has already started her summer project and will be researching for a total of six weeks full time at BabyLing Lab where she contributes to an ongoing study on children's early language development.

Recently the new biotech company Tribune Therapeutics was established based on research conducted by Ole J?rgen Kaasb?ll and H?vard Attramadal. Ole J?rgen Kaasb?ll was admitted to UiO:Life Science¡¯ innovation programme SPARK Norway in 2019 and will now assume the role of Chief Scientific Officer in the new company where Georg Vo Beiske, HealthCap has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Tribune Therapeutics aims to develop a treatment for fibrosis.

UiO:Life Science does not offer its own courses or study programs in life sciences, but wants to contribute to providing the students with the best possible educational programs. Departments and faculties can now apply for support to develop interdisciplinary bachelor courses in life sciences. The application deadline is 1 April.

After being corona-delayed by six months, it was time to celebrate the first graduates from the innovation program SPARK Norway. The graduation of a total of nine projects was marked with the presentation of diplomas and presentations given by all project managers, also called SPARKees.

Last week it was announced that the new Life Science Building risks considerable budget cuts to stay within budget. Difficult ground conditions and extra engineering costs are the main reasons.

Nuria Pereira Banzon is one of 41 students who received a grant from UiO:Life Science to work on a life science research project this summer. She is working on the project ¡®How impaired brain garbage recycling and bad sleep affect memory?¡¯ which is headed by Associate Professor Evandro Fei Fang at Akershus University Hospital. 

Gerd Nilsen becomes a new business representative on the board of UiO:Life Science from June 1. Gerd works as Senior Project Manager in Thermo Fisher Scientific.
