"I had no idea about this! It is incredibly gratifying that the work we've done is being appreciated," says Guro Frostestad.

As the head of office at the Department of Social Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Frostestad has ensured the further development of field cards.

The purpose of the field cards is to make sure the employer has an overview of the whereabouts of students and employees associated with the department. The nomination states that Frostestad has established a risk assessment prior to travel with mitigating measures, and that she has contributed to raising awareness and compliance with reporting ahead of fieldwork and stays abroad.

By including a risk analysis as a fixed point in the field card, Frostestad's efforts contribute to awareness of one's own safety and the exploration of mitigating measures, according to the arguments for this year's award.

"The field card existed before, but a risk and vulnerability analysis was not integrated. Together with the personnel consultant and research advisor, we have landed a better system to know where people are when they're traveling," says the award-winner.

Focus on health, security and environment

The HSE award is granted annually to an individual or group at the University of Oslo who has made a prominent contribution to the work environment at their unit or at UiO as a whole. The award winner receives 50,000 NOK.

The University Director, Arne Benjaminsen, presented the award for 2023 at this year's LAMU seminar, which gathers all the members of the local working environment committees.

In his speech to the award-winner, the university director highlighted how Frostestad creates a culture for risk analysis and actively works to prevent sick leave by exploring accommodation options.

He pointed out that Frostestad has an open-door policy that provides a low threshold for bringing up issues, and implements new solutions and further develops solutions in dialogue with the employees.

"Guro Frostestad focuses on investigating and listening, and has an inclusive leadership style where she welcomes input."
