Improving accessibility, interoperability and efficiency of Norwegian health care data for health care decision-making in Europe and beyond

The mission of the EDHEN project is to provide a new paradigm for the analysis of health data in Europe by building a large-scale, federated network of data partners across Europe.

Central to EHDEN is the standardization of health data to the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) CDM and the utilization of analytical tools such as those developed by the international Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) open science collaboration (www.ohdsi.org) and others. The aim is to standardize more than 100 million patient records from different data sources across Europe, e.g., hospital data, registries, population databases, etc., to enable medical outcomes-based research at an unprecedented scale.

As an EDHEN data partner, PharmaSafe is working with USIT to map Norwegian health data onto the OMOP and the ConcePTION CDM. The supporting infrastructure needed by PharmaSafe within TSD is being built by USIT. PharmaSafe is receiving support from dScience on the following tasks: 1) Improving computational efficiency of R scripts received from collaborators in large European networks (e.g., ConcePTION); 2) Mapping of data between data models (Nordic, OMOP, ConcePTION); 3) Providing data stewardship and supporting infrastructure to improve the data analyses at UiO.
