As part of the EU Horizon project Contrast we can offer one or two master projects on how and whether toxic substances, specifically contaminants of emerging concern, affect deep-water organisms. The projects may comprise both a field and a laboratory component.
Coral, Lophelia pertusa, and deep-water bivalves, Aceste sp., will be collected and brought to the lab at Austevoll. Following adaptation, they will be exposed to selected contaminants through water, then sampled and analysed for effect markers. Tissue samples will also be subject to proteomics analyses. Analyses will be performed in collaboration with IMR (Havforskningsinstituttet) in Bergen.
The same species will be collected during field campaigns off the coast of northern Norway and in France. Tissue samples will be taken and analysed using methods established following experimental studies described above.
