  • the ability to critically read and evaluate empirical studies related to specific learning difficulties???

  • the ability to systematically? consider the advantages, challenges, and limitations of the variety of methodological approaches in educational sciences related to specific learning difficulties???

  • the ability to apply relevant conclusions to their own work. When given a recent paper in this field, students will be able to understand its general contents (not necessarily all specialized methods), and gauge its relevance for contemporary science related to specific learning difficulties?

  • the ability to understand publications in cognitive journals related to specific learning difficulties and to critically evaluate the methods and content of these studies.?

  • the ability to discuss advanced substantive questions raised in contemporary research of individual differences in reading, mathematics and language?

  • the skills to search, judge and synthesize contemporary literature on complex topics in the psychology of individual differences?

Admission to the course

Requires admission to the master’s programme in?Research in Special Needs Education or the master’s programme in Special Needs Education.?Eligible exchange students at master’s level, as well as other master students at UiO, can be admitted if there are available places.?This course is also open for international exchange students at master's level with a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent.

The course is compulsory for students on the specialisation Spesifikke l?revansker.

SPED4401, basic knowledge of individual differences in reading and mathematics and/or advanced methodological knowledge.

Overlapping courses

Teaching

The teaching consists of lectures and seminars. Parts of the teaching are compulsory.?

Compulsory components:?

  • Attendance at lectures and seminars?

  • Five group reports

The compulsory components must be completed and approved in order to sit the exam and are valid for three years.?

Refer to the guidelines for attendance in compulsory teaching sessions.

Examination

Individual home exam (3 days).

Language of examination

Scandinavian or English.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about?the grading system.

Resit an examination

Students with an approved reason for absence or who do not pass the ordinary exam will be given the opportunity to sit a postponed exam/resit exam. The postponed exam/resit exam is usually held within three months after the ordinary exam.?
