RSNE4100 – Cultural-historical and decolonial approaches to learning, development, and inclusion
Course description
Course content
The course will provide a solid ground for analyzing and understanding the processes of inclusion and inclusive teaching/learning. The course will include interdisciplinary knowledge from cultural-historical psychology, dialogical pedagogy, developmental sciences, philosophy, and sociology. Students will also learn how to write a scientific essay.

and understanding of developmental processes and teaching/learning in socio-cultural and cultural-historic perspectives??

competence related to supporting each individual child/pupil/citizen as an active learner to develop his/her full potential
competence in understanding and supporting key actors for care, communication and mediation of individual learning processes related to group settings (caregivers, teachers, special needs educators, etc) in developing sustainable interventions
competence in critically analyzing inclusive practices and their institutional frameworks?
competence in understanding multicultural processes and to promote social justice in teaching/learning???
Admission to the course
Admission to the master's programme in Research in Special Needs Education or the master’s programme in Special Needs Education. Eligible exchange students at master's level, as well as other master students at UiO, can be admitted if there are available places.
Recommended previous knowledge
Basic knowledge of developmental and educational psychology is recommended.
Overlapping courses
- 10 credits overlap with SNE4130 – Historical and Sociocultural Perspectives on Learning and Development.
Teaching
The teaching consists of hybrid teaching, flipped classroom and smaller group works. Parts of the teaching are compulsory.?

Attendance in lectures and seminars?
The compulsory components must be completed and approved in order to sit the exam and are valid for three years.?

Examination
Individual written home exam (5 days).
Examination support material
All examination support material is allowed.
Language of examination
Scandinavian or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about?the grading system.
Resit an examination
Students who do not pass an exam may have a second attempt as soon as it is possible to arrange. This is called a re-sit examination. The re-sit examination is held within 3 months of the original examination.
Students who have passed their exam, but who wish to improve their grade may not participate in a re-sit examination. You may take an exam to improve your grades at the next time the course has an ordinary exam, as long as you have not already used all three attempts. The Department will provide information and guidelines about the re-sit examination.
