Problems for Monday - and old exam sets etc.
I have not tried the following before, and as I do not have access to StudentWeb, I do not know whether it looks OK therein: I have posted the seminar problems in the schedule document. For seminar 1, you should now be able to see a 'Resources/Curriculum' and a 'Show more'.
- The definiteness questions require the following piece of theory I mentioned today, and which we will elaborate on in Monday's lecture: the quadratic form is positive(/negative) definite of <=> it is a strictly convex(/concave) function; and pos.(/neg.) semidefinite <=> it is a convex(/concave) function. Apply the tests.
(We know a bit more, to be covered on Monday.)
In the left margin of the course web site, you will see a link with text "Old exam problems etc" leading to the folder http://www.uio.no/studier/emner/sv/oekonomi/ECON4140/oldexams/
Therein, old exams and solutions are available;
- Today I have made a uniform format for the file names for those of you who type URLs quicker than browsing links, so exam 2004 has name M3x2004.pdf and the solutions have similar filenames with "SOLVED" added before the dot - with the exception that M3x2006SOLVED.pdf leads to a text that no solution was produced. (Note: filenames case-sensitive!)
- We will use extensively the compendium of old exam problems, filename M3Compendium (no "x").
- (Disregard page 2 of that webpage; those are copies with old filenames left in order not to break
old links - for those of you who wish to look at last semester's seminars problems before I post.)
