How to write and submit the term paper
So I've already had a question on how it should look like.
You should
- Write longhand. Yes, we want a handwritten paper like you would do on the exam.
- Scan it to a PDF file. Upload that to Fronter.
How/where to scan?
- The libraries: https://www.ub.uio.no/english/using/printing-copying/#skanne / https://www.ub.uio.no/bruk/utskrift-kopiering/#skanne
- Most of you have good enough cameras as well - for example on cellphones. But then you should beware the following:
- You will need some utility/app that converts multiple pictures to a single PDF.
No problem if you use an ordinary computer, but possibly not installed in your cellphone by default. - You might need some utility/app that reduces size.
Modern cellphones make too good - i.e., extremely large - pictures. People have experienced that their term papers won't upload (no wonder ... it takes time to upload hundred unnecessary megabytes).
- You will need some utility/app that converts multiple pictures to a single PDF.
What we prefer not to see:
- We do not like those "fifteen single-JPEG termpaper submissions" from students who did not convert to a single PDF. (And then a desperate e-mail from someone who only got to submit twice before deadline ...)
- We are not going to be impressed by computer-typesetting. Choose content over form, please!
- It is hard to do math as you typeset. Believe me, I have been doing that since the twentieth century: it diverts brainpower from the math.
- It drains your time budget.
- And unless you are skilled, it won't even look pretty.
Sure, go ahead if you really want to take the opportunity to practice your LaTeX skills (until you want more fine-tuning control, I'd recommend LyX (which is multiplaform)) - but don't say you weren't warned.
