MF9210 – Laboratory course in molecular biology

Course content
The practical part of the course will include basic methods in Molecular Biology, including PCR, DNA purification, DNA sequencing etc. Lectures, 8 in total, will include a summary, and history, of molecular methods as well as more advanced methods relevant to the generation of mutant mice models, DNA repair processes, epigenetics etc.
Learning outcome
After completion of the course the candidate should:
- Understand, and perform, the most important methods in
molecular biology - Understand the molecular approach used in research relevant
for understanding the development and treatment of human
disease.
Admission
Ph.D. candidates and students at the Medical Student Research Programme will get first priority to the course. Maximum number of particpants is 20.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
No obligatory prerequisites beyond the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway.
Teaching
The course is organized as full day teaching over 4 days including lectures and practical laboratory work.
NB! You have to participate in at least 80 % of the teaching to be allowed to take the exam. Attendance at lectures will be registered.
Examination
The participants must hand in a course protocol within 2 weeks after the end of the course.

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
