Introducion course in Pediatrics 4. February

Welcome to the Introduction Course in Pediatrics. This course will focus on key practical skills
you will need throughout the semester when you meet pediatric patients in the clinic.
We will begin with a short lecture providing general information about the clinical part of the
course and the four patient records you will complete during the semester. This session will
take place in one of the seminar rooms at Rikshospitalet.
After the lecture, we will go together to the Skills Centre (Ferdighetssenteret) for a series of
station-based learning sessions. There will be a total of five stations, each lasting 25 minutes,
with one short break in between. It will be an intensive day, so please make sure to eat well
beforehand.
The stations:
1. Newborn examination
2. Critical ill child.
3. Neurological examination of a child
4. Essential Pediatrics: ENT, Urine & Access
5. Growth and Puberty
Preparations:
To get the most out of the practical learning day, please prepare by watching the newborn
examination video (Norwegian – , English – link) and reviewing the preparation slides for
stations 3 and 4. All lectures and additional useful materials (including links to pediatric
neurological examination videos) will be added to the timetable afterwards and will remain
available throughout the semester.
