MRSA testing and missed clinical teaching - revised message

Dear students!

Please read all of the following messages from Egil Lingaas and Anne Flem Jacobsen:

Delivery of Tests:

The Microbiology Laboratory is open for sample reception from 08:00 - 15:30, Monday to Friday. During this period, samples should be placed in the designated plastic container just inside the door, as shown in the information provided to students. Outside these times, samples can be delivered to the "Felles pr?vemottak" at the Department of Medical Biochemistry on the 2nd floor (one floor below the Department of Microbiology). This also applies on Saturdays and Sundays. The samples will then be collected by the Microbiology Department, and the analyses will begin the same day (until 21:00 on weekdays, until 15:30 on Saturdays, and until 14:30 on Sundays). Samples must be delivered at least 1 hour before these times if the analysis is to begin the same day.

Please note that to simplify the process in the laboratory, students must fill out a total of 3 requisition forms, one for each sample (nose, throat, perineum).

Analysis Time:

Negative samples are usually processed within the next working day, but some samples may take longer.

Positive samples will generally take longer (several days) to complete because the findings need to be confirmed, and resistance testing must be conducted.

Reporting:

All results, both negative and positive, will be communicated by telephone (the orientation letter states that only those who are positive will be called, but we have now changed this).

(Note! For samples taken at Ahus, we need to make an agreement with them.)

Follow-up for Positive Findings:

Sanitation must be initiated. This will be undertaken by SiO Health, who will contact each individual to schedule an appointment.

Kind regards,

We will find new appointments on the labor ward for the students who were excluded from their wards. As far as we know this only applies to the labor wards at Rikshospitalet and Ullev?l. If more students have been excluded from other wards/departments, please tell us.

To the MRSA positive students we will make an extra arrangement later in the semester to replace the clinical teaching/practice you have missed, to secure your learning and ensure your access to the exam.

Have a good weekend.

And thank you for your understanding.

Best
