Course content
The candidate will acquire basic background knowledge sufficient to convert an attractive innovation idea to a startup company within a cross-disciplinary team. This course aims to provide systematic tools for how to develop an idea towards a business, for example towards new treatments or biomarkers, including use of a variety of business tools. The candidate will develop skills in leadership and interdisciplinary work and use prepared innovation ideas from the UiO environment to grow skills needed to develop realistic business models and to pitch business proposals to various stakeholders and customers.
Learning outcome
After completing the course, (you will have the following competencies):
? Broad understanding of the concept of business tools and use this to
analyze business ideas presented
? To build business proposals by systematic use of tools such as Business
Model Canvas, Lean canvas and Design thinking
? To be able to write a business plan, including focus on prototype generation,
competitive advantage, IPR and other relevant topics
? To be able to pitch business ideas to investors and other relevant stakeholders
? To be able to secure IPR, build prototypes and generate business plans allowing
setup of startup companies within context of current innovation guidelines and
resources
Admission
This course is part of the studieprogram Life Science Innovation (honours certificate).
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.
Only students enrolled in the Life Science Innovation (honours certificate) can be admitted to this course.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
The course requires enrollment in LSI4005 - Introduction to innovation in life science.

Teaching
The teaching consists of problem-based learning, flipped classroom, seminars/workshops with oral presentations, case studies and site visits.
Attendance at the first lecture is mandatory. You will lose your seat in the course if you do not show up or contact us on MED Student Information before the first lecture starts.
Access to teaching: A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to the course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Compulsory activities:
? Attendance at 80 percent of the course and written group assignment must be approve in order to be eligible to take the exam.
Compulsory participation and approved assignments are valid for 1 year only.
