INTHE4123 – Addressing Non-Communicable Diseases: A Global Health Perspective
Course content
This course will explore the increasing burden of major non-communicable?diseases (NCDs), examining the social, economic, environmental, and?policy-related factors that contribute to this challenge. The course will?highlight the importance of an interdisciplinary, systems-oriented and?equitable approach to the prevention and control of NCDs.
Through lectures and seminars, the following key issues will be?addressed:

The complexity of the drivers influencing NCDs

The necessity for innovative and sustainable approaches to?combat NCDs

The significance of incorporating an equity lens when addressing?NCDs

Admission to the course
This course is available for students registered at the master programmes at the Institute of Health and Society.
Students from other master programmes at UiO may also be admitted.

Teaching
The course consists of lectures, and seminars. In the seminars, the?students do exercises and assignments related to the course.
80% attendance in the seminars is required to be eligible to take?the exam. Attendance will be registered.?
The quota for absence is meant to cover normal sickness absence and the like. You are therefore not given a valid absence from classes based on a medical certificate, even if the absence is due to obstacles for which you yourself cannot be blamed.?In special cases, for example in the case of serious or long-term illness, you can apply for special needs provisions.
Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and?has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and?coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has?not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these?approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending?on available capacity.
Examination
Written school examination, individual.
80% attendance in the seminars is required to be eligible to take the exam.?

Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.
Grading scale
