Those who will have to deliver a second try for Oblig 2, have now been notified in Devilry. You can pick up your first try with comments and instructions at the 7th floor in Niels Henrik Abels hus (where you delivered it). NB! The second (and last) try has to be delivered Tuesday 25th before 14.30 same place. NB!
If you have not been notified yet in Devilry, it means you have passed. We will register this as passed in Devilry during tomorrow. You can pick up your corrected assignment after 16.00 tomorrow Wednesday.
Mandatory assignment 2 of 2 is now available under ?Compulsory assignments? on the semester page. Good luck!
The slides for week 12 are now available. It could be useful for you to bring them to the lectures!
The evaluations of the first assignment are now available in Devilry. You can pick up your assignment in the same place as you delivered it, 7th floor Niels Henrik Abels hus.
If you have not passed, you get a second chance - please redeliver in the same place Thursday 16th of March before 14.30.
If you wish to learn more about how to use R (and R studio) efficiently for your research, how to manage your data files, how to organise your files and results so that all your analyses are reproducible etc., this online R workshop from the Software Carpentry group might be very helpful. The Carpentry group at UiO also arranges courses and workshops on R programming at an irregular basis, follow their pages for information!
The student representatives have prepared a questionnaire concerning the course that we kindly ask you to respond to (takes 2 min).
The poll closes on March 3rd 2017. Thank you for participating!
The slides for Lecture 5 have been updated (additional material in the very end, 12 pages). The assignment to be handed in March 2nd can be found on the right side of the semester page.
We now have two student representatives:
Jenny Skytte (email jmsatra at ulrik.uio.no) (master student)
Aslak Bergersen (email bergersen at simula.no) (PhD student)
Please contact them with feedback and comments - we will have a meeting on Friday in the lunch break.
The slides and exercises for the first week are published on the right side of this page. I recommend to bring the slides to the lectures, so that you can write notes on them.
See you on Monday! Ingrid
There will be two mandatory projects (obligatorisk oppgaver) this semester, to be handed in week 9 and 14 (Thursday 2/3 and Thursday 6/4 2017).
There will be a written final exam (4 hours).
For examples and exercises we will use the statistics program R.
R can be downloaded to your computer free of charge on windows, mac and linux-platforms from http://cran.r-project.org/
If you have problems installing R help might be given at computer exercises.
It is possible to learn a lot from the slides of the lectures, which will be available on this page from Tuesday 7/2. The recommended textbook is Vittinghof, E., Glidden, D., Shiboski,S.C. and McCullogh, C. (2005) or (2012), Regression methods in biostatistics, Springer. All references will be given to the 2012 edition of the book.
The book is available as e-book, and can be freely accessed and loaded down as a pdf file as long as you are on the UiO net

Welcome to STK4900/9900! The first intensive part of the course takes place in week 7, from 13th-17th of February. We will have lectures every day from 9.15-12.00, then there will be a lunch break, followed by exercises and R-exercises in groups. Following recommendations from the students last year, we shorten the lunch break and start with exercises from 12.45-15.30; hence finishing half an hour before. One group will have R-exercises 12.45-14.00 and exercises 14.15-15.30; the second group will start with exercises 12.45-14.00 and have R-exercises 14.15-15.30.
As a preparation to the first part of the course, the students are encouraged to recapitulate the main themes of Chapters 6, 7, 10 and 11 in the course book for STK1000; see here for details (or the similar material in another introductory book in statistics).
