After the lectures/exercises

Here, I will give a brief summary of what was discussed in each lecture or exercise session.?

Monday, January 26: We started discussing Chapter 4.1 in the book and covered the first 25 slides in the lecture notes on spatial geostatistical processses (V26_03_ch4_geostat.pdf). We will continue from there next Monday.?

Friday, January 23: We finished going through lecture 2 on temporal processes and discussed Exercise 2 which is directly related to the last example in lecture 2. Since we didn't get to Exercise 1, we will discuss it in the exercise session on January 30.?

For further reading on time series, I recommend the online book Forecasting: Principles and Practice by Hyndman and Athanasopoulos (see also the older second edition for code example using the forecast package; differences between the two editions are discussed here). This book covers many topics on time series. The most relevant topics for us are the chapters or regression models and ARIMA models.?

Monday, January 19: We went through the introduction material. This corresponds to Chapters 1 and 2 in the book which provide a nice background information. We also started going through lecture 2 on temporal processes, where we made it as far as page 15. Here, we cover the material in Chapters 3.1, 3.3 and 3.4 in the book.?

Note that the book we will use later in the semester for extreme value statistics in not yet published. A preliminary version of the chapters we will cover is available in Canvas. To find it, navigate to the folder HandbookExtremes under Files.?
