- Obtaining $\hat{\alpha}$ by multiplying $X^T$ on the both side of the equations is not how ¡®least squares¡¯ is defined. You have to find $\hat{\alpha}$ that minimizes $(Y-X\beta)^T (Y-X\beta)$.
