MEK9410 – Offshore wind and aerodynamics of wind turbines

Schedule, syllabus and examination date

Course content

Learning outcome

After completing the course you have:?

  • basic knowledge about aerodynamics and the forces acting on foil profiles
  • knowledge about the forces on wind turbine rotors, how the rotor gives a feedback on the velocity field, and actual computation models for this
  • knowledge about a given rotor, can calculate the forces on the rotor, in interplay with the tower and support geometry
  • knowledge about principles to modify and adjust the rotor, control system, tower and the floating support geometry, in order to secure stability and a safe operation

Admission to the course

PhD candidates from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through Studentweb.

If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.

PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must apply for a position as a visiting student within a given deadline.

Some knowledge in complex functional theory will be an advantage.
