You can find the latest version of the notes on Fourier series here . I corrected some typos, I added the inclusion of L2[-\pi,\pi] in L1[-\pi,\pi], and I added some more explanation in Lemma 2.2 and just after it.

A suggested solution to the exam in MAT3400/4400 from 2010 can be found here.

CHANGE OF PLAN FOR LECTURE ON DECEMBER 2: due to an exam in another course in the morning of December 2 the lecture that day at 10.15-12 is moved to Wednesday November 30 at 12.15-14 in Room 534 in Niels Henrik Abel building. This will be a combined question session and problem solving.

There will still be a question session on Friday December 2 at 12.15-14 in room 301, but this will also be combined with problem solving.

The last lecture on Friday December 2 will be in room 301 in the Niels Henrik Abel building. From 10.15 to 12 we solve the problems in the teaching plan, and from 12.15 to 14 there is a question-session where you can ask questions about theory and problems.

From old exam sets listed in the left column under "Oppgaver" you can try to solve the following problems: MAT4340-2010 problems 1 and 2(a-c), MAT4340-2009 problems 1(a-c) and 3, MAT4300-2010 problems 1, 2 and 3, MAT4300-2009 problems 1, 2 ,3 ,4a, MAT4300-2008 problems 1 and 4.

On Monday October 24 we continue with section 7.2 (Lemma 7.4, Theorem 7.5, Lemma 7.9) and we start on section 7.3.

The mandatory assignment is now posted. If you are enrolled in this course under the code MAT4400 then make sure that you write the solution to the assignment using a presentation software for mathematics (Latex), as specified under "Exam information" on course page.

I will write a short report after each lecture where I shall summarize what material was covered. The reports can be found in the file under the title "Reports from lectures". I will update the file every week.

After giving consideration to all incoming messages I have decided to keep the Monday lecture at the scheduled time, namely from 12:15 to 14, with one hour of lecture from 12:15 to 13 and one hour of problems solving from 13:15 to 14. For those who cannot attend one or both of these hours please talk to me (or to other students who attend) about the contents of the material covered.

The overlap between MAT3400/4400 and MAT4200 on Fridays is solved after MAT4200 has been moved to 8.15-10 same day.

To eliminate the overlap between MAT3400/4400 and STK4050 on Mondays we can try to move the lecture to a different day and time, but only if this action doesn't cause problems to more students than the current schedule does. There are two options: move to either Monday 8.15-10 or Thursday 8.15-10 (both in same room, B534). Please send an e-mail to me at nadiasl"at"math.uio.no no later than September 6 to tell me if any of these new times is problematic. Based on the answers received, I will make a final decision regarding the Monday lecture.

It turns out that there is a time overlap between this course and STK4050 on Mondays, 13:15-14, and between this course and MAT4200 on Fridays, 10:15-12. This creates problems for several students attending MAT3400/MAT4400. We're trying to solve this issue in a good way. For the time being, classes continue at the usual hours.
