The last lecture will be on Wednesday November 24. The exam takes place on Thursday November 25.
There will be no classes on November 10 and 11.
The student representatives for this course are Jens Demberg and Nikolay Qviller.
If you are planning to take the exam, please come and see me to discuss the compulsory exercises and the curriculum.
The lecture on Wednesday September 22 will be in room B71.
On Thursday September 30, 2010 Fields Medallist Cédric Villani will give a public lecture in Sophus Lie's Auditorium at 12:15. There will be no MAT4230 lecture that day.
The week 40 is fall vacation: no lectures on Wednesday October 6 and Thursday October 7 (you will get homework).
The previously announced talk by David Eisenbud on Tuesday Sept. 7 is unfortunately cancelled, since he is not coming to Norway after all... sorry!
The new times for MAT4230 is Wednesday 12:15-14 in B81 and Thursday 14:15-15in B71. Hence the next lecture is Wednesday September 8.
David Eisenbud (University of California, Berkeley) visits CMA on Tuesday September 7. He will give a talk on Vector Bundles and Free Resolutions at 10:15 in room B1036 (tenth floor in the math building). Hope to see you all there!
The topic of MAT4230 - Algebraic geometry III will be Moduli spaces and Hilbert schemes. We will start with some classical examples of parameter varieties - linear systems, Grassmannians, Chow varieties, and pass to Hilbert schemes; the main objects we want to parameterize are curves (and points). Then we will give a gentle introduction to algebraic spaces and stacks, before looking more carefully at the moduli space of stable (pointed) curves. The underlying motivation is "curve counting" on surfaces and threefolds, also known as the study of numerical invariants as in Gromov-Witten and Donaldson-Thomas theory.
The first lecture will be on Tuesday August 31.
