Your solutions to the compulsory problems can be picked up at the 7th floor of the Math. Building ("the oblig. shelves"). New deadline is May 10, 2:15 pm, in case your solution was not approved. Contact me if you did not as of yet receive any feedback in Devilry.

The Obligatory problem set has been posted on the left side of the course front page. As usual, your solutions should be delivered on paper in the special box, "Obligkassa" , at 7th floor of the Math. Building. Use the special front page form for obligatory problem sets.

The printed

Lecture Notes in Control Theory

contains some more details about Calculus of Variations and Control Theory  than the real lectures.

See also the

SCHEDULE

for copies of many of the real lectures and also solutions to exercises (to be posted frequently from now on).

A useful substitution

As noted before the substitution v=x-y can also be used, but leads to more calculations than the one above . The exercise  in EP did not require a solution (only the existence an uniqueness of the solution), but it is still useful to provide a formula for the solution.

Correction:  A second power is missing in the logarithm  in (***)

It appease that you may use the book

ELEMENTARY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS sixth edition, by EDWARDS & PENNEY

as a replacement for

ELEMENTARY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS  WITH BOUNDARY VALUES sixth edition (or seventh edition), by EDWARDS & PENNEY

The first book could be easier to find in stock than the second one (as a paper version).

The first two sessions, Tuesday Jan. 19 and 20, will consist of lectures on first order ordinary differential equations, Edwards and Penny (EP) 1.1-1.5. See the Schedule for more details.
